In Athens, the airport and railway services have been halted due to a strike.

The Greek transport sector paralyzed due to a strike
In Greece, transport is complicated or halted due to a 24-hour strike by transport sector workers, reports 'Glavkom' citing the Katherimini publication.
Rallies are planned in Athens, Thessaloniki, and many other cities in Greece and abroad. Unions and organizations have announced participation in a nationwide strike, timed to the second anniversary of the railway disaster in Thessaly.
Suburban train services in Athens have been halted, and taxi drivers have joined the strike. However, the metro and trams continue to operate to provide transportation for protesters to the parliament building.
Disruptions in the departure and arrival of flights at airports across the country are expected due to the participation of Greek air traffic controllers in the strike.
On February 28, 2023, a head-on collision occurred between a city passenger train and a freight train in Thessaly, resulting in the deaths of 57 people. This disaster became the deadliest in the history of railway communication in Greece. Protests took place across the country in response to the tragedy, and many people believe that the cause was a deterioration of the railway infrastructure due to the financial crisis.
The investigation is still ongoing, and the cause of death of many victims remains unknown to this day. Relatives of the deceased accuse the authorities of delaying the investigation and attempting to cover up evidence, but these accusations are denied.
The center-right government of Greece has promised to reform the railway network after re-election, but the European Commission claims that very little has actually been accomplished so far. At the protest in Athens, the families of the deceased stated that the fire after the accident occurred due to an 'illegal chemical cargo' that the train allegedly carried.
