Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century palace at the foot of the Alps in southern Germany, located near the Austrian border. It contains 200 rooms, but only 14 of them are accessible to tourists. The height of the tallest tower reaches 65 meters, but the palace appears much higher as it is located on top of a hill.

The castle was built in 1869 at the request of King Ludwig II, who was nicknamed 'Mad King Ludwig' and was known for his love of extravagant palaces. However, he never saw the final version of Neuschwanstein, as he died in 1886, and construction was only completed in 1892.

Inspiration for Disney

Over Time, the beauty of the castle inspired Walt Disney, who, along with his brother Roy, founded Walt Disney Productions, one of the most famous film companies in the world. He saw it during a trip to Europe with his wife and used its elements to create the Sleeping Beauty castle, which is the most recognizable building and logo of Disney. This year in July, it was officially added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.

Tickets to the castle can be booked online. The adult admission costs 23.50 euros, while for children under 17, it is only 2.50 euros.
