In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, a serviceman refused to follow the commander's order due to religious beliefs and was sentenced to imprisonment, reports the Kolomyia District Court of Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Case Details

According to the case materials, in December of last year, the soldier was sent to Sloviansk, but he refused due to his religion - he has belonged to the Seventh-day Adventist Church since 2013 and believes that this prevents him from participating in war and using weapons.

Court Decision

The court believes that in the context of military operations, every citizen of Ukraine must fulfill their military duty, and religious refusals are not grounds for evasion. Therefore, the serviceman was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. This decision can be appealed.

It is also worth noting that in Transcarpathia, one man was sentenced to five years in prison for embezzlement of funds from a deceased soldier, and in Chernihiv, another man was sentenced to probation for evading military conscription.

The Kolomyia court sentenced the serviceman to five years of imprisonment for refusing to follow the commander's order due to religious principles. The court decided that military duty must be fulfilled by every citizen, regardless of their beliefs.
