German president accuses Russia of 'historical lying'

The Federal President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, spoke in the Bundestag and accused Russia of spreading 'historical lies' during its aggression against Ukraine. He noted that the war against Ukraine by the Kremlin has nothing to do with the fight against Nazism during World War II.

'Putin's aggressive war, his offensive against a free, democratic country has nothing in common with the fight against the Nazi tyrannical regime during World War II,' he emphasized.

Steinmeier also condemned the policy of U.S. President Donald Trump, pointing to the turning away from the order they had jointly established. He expressed these statements during his address to the government.

Analysis

The statements of the German president reflect his firm view on the events in Ukraine and the distinction between historical truth and manipulations being carried out on the international level. His criticism also addresses changes in the world order and relations between countries, which could be crucial for the further development of events in global politics.
