Ukraine may ban 'unwanted' calls to mobile phones: what it is about.

Ukraine is considering a ban on 'unwanted' calls to mobile phones. A bill for this has passed its first reading.
According to information from the newspaper 'Judicial and Legal Newspaper', making unwanted calls and messages to subscribers will be prohibited by law, and subscribers will have the right to submit requests to electronic communications service providers for tracking these calls.
The bill 8153 'On the Protection of Personal Data', which was submitted by the speaker of parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk back in 2022, was approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on November 20.
The law also proposes additional articles regulating the tracking of malicious or unwanted calls to subscribers and prohibits their conduct.
Subscribers will have the right to contact electronic communications service providers with requests for the contact details of individuals making these unwanted calls, in order to protect their interests in court.
Electronic communications service providers will be required to respond to such requests within 10 days.
Subscriber requests must contain information confirming that unwanted calls are made from the number for which the request is made.
Providers are also required to keep records of requests and responses for 3 years to identify subscribers and confirm the making of unwanted calls.
Notification of the results of tracking unwanted calls must also be provided to the subscriber in writing.
The ban on unwanted calls to mobile phones is one of the measures that Ukraine is taking to protect the personal data of citizens and combat spam and unwanted advertising. This will be an important step in ensuring the privacy and comfort of subscribers.
