Ukrainian documentary to compete at Warsaw Film Festival.

Ukrainian director Marina Tkachuk will present the world premiere of her documentary film "Family Album" at the Warsaw International Film Festival on October 13, 2024. The film will be presented in the Documentary Competition section. Tkachuk announced this on her Facebook page.
The film tells about the historical parallels between the Holodomor and the war in Ukraine.
"The basis of our film is the incredible story of British photo artist Samara Pierce and her great-grandfather, Austrian engineer Alexander Wienerberger, who witnessed the Holodomor in Kharkov in 1933 and took the most important photographs of the artificial famine in Ukraine. After learning about her great-grandfather's story, Samara reevaluated her own creative career: she fell in love with Ukraine and decided to take her own photos about the war. She wants to show that the genocide of Ukrainians continues," said Marina Tkachuk.
The film "Family Album" won the art competition from the state enterprise "Multimedia Platform of Foreign Broadcasting of Ukraine" and received state support for film production and partnership with the Holodomor Museum.
The Toronto International Film Festival included the film "Russians at War" by Russian-Canadian director Anastasia Trofimova in its program despite protests from the Ukrainian community and diplomats. Previously, this film was shown at the Venice Film Festival.
The Ukrainian Oscar Committee selected the film "La Palisiada" by director Philip Sotnychenko as the Ukrainian contender for the 97th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
