Ukrainian hryvnia can "change its face". The head of the National Bank hinted at updates.

New portraits of Ukrainian figures may appear on new banknotes
The head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pyshny, announced a possible change in the design of Ukrainian hryvnias. According to him, the current design of banknotes is outdated as it has been in effect since 1992.
Andriy Pyshny did not reveal who exactly can be expected on the new banknotes, but emphasized that they should be relevant. He also noted that the design of banknotes has already been updated three times in the European Union.
Generations must have a connection with their currency
According to the head of the NBU, each subsequent generation should have the opportunity to feel connected to their currency and participate in its design.
Currently, figures such as Vladimir the Great, Bohdan Khmelnytsky, Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Hryhoriy Skovoroda, Volodymyr Vernadskyi, and others are depicted on the hryvnias.
Coins may receive a new name
Moreover, the National Bank of Ukraine also proposed to change the name of coins from 'kopiyka' to 'shah'. This proposal is aimed at restoring historical justice and derussification.
It is worth mentioning that an exhibition expedition titled 'Hryvnia. More than Money' about the Ukrainian national currency has opened in Kyiv.
