Vegetables at the market and in the supermarket: price discrepancies
Ukrainian consumers are increasingly asking: where is it more advantageous to buy vegetables - at the market or in the supermarket.
"Khvilya" conducted a study of prices for popular vegetables - carrots and onions.
Carrots, without which no borscht is complete, cost between 17 and 19 hryvnias per kilogram at the market. Meanwhile, the situation is somewhat different in supermarkets. In Metro, carrots can be purchased for 19.66 UAH/kg, in Auchan for 18.90 UAH/kg, and in Megamarket for 17.90 UAH/kg. The average price in stores is 18.82 UAH/kg, which almost matches the upper limit of market prices.
In the market, onions can be bought for a price ranging from 13 to 15 hryvnias per kilogram. However, the picture is more varied in supermarkets. Prices for white onions range from 17.90 UAH/kg in Auchan to 39.99 UAH/kg in Novus, which is shocking, with an average price of 28.95 UAH/kg. Onions in stores cost from 12.90 to 18.90 UAH/kg, with an average price of 15.05 UAH/kg. Interestingly, even blue onions have found their place on the shelves, with prices ranging from 15.90 to 19.90 UAH/kg and an average price of 17.90 UAH/kg.
