Russia is trying to maintain the initiative in the war with Ukraine. It greatly values its status in the eyes of Western countries. This status allows it to conduct broader and more escalatory actions.
Such an opinion was expressed by political strategist, head of the Center for Political Intelligence Oleg Posternak in an interview with the television channel FREEДОМ.
«This, as always, is reflected in the positions of Western politicians and, of course, the population, which, generally speaking, perhaps wants the Russian-Ukrainian war to end. And the sooner, the better, because there are many problems that worry Western citizens,» Posternak said.
Speaking about possible actions by Russia against the democratic world, the political strategist offered several options. In particular, he believes that Russia may engage China.
«The PRC also participates in Putin's and North Korea's military adventures, especially in the economic sphere,» Posternak pointed out.
Another means of influence, according to Posternak, could be the testing of tactical nuclear weapons or their use in space.
«This might also include expanding threats to the West in the Arctic. Also, Russian special services are conducting intelligence work in the countries of the European Union and outside the EU. For example, in Switzerland and Austria. The main task of Russia is to support its operations to prevent the expansion of support for Ukraine,» Posternak emphasized.
He also does not rule out that threats might come from North Korea.
«After Ukrainian military start to dismantle the personal staff of the North Korean army [at the front], I do not rule out that Pyongyang and Kim Jong Un himself will threaten to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. This could happen, and Putin might play this card,» the political strategist concluded.
