Protests in Khmelnytskyi over the arrival of Metropolitan Onufriy

In Khmelnytskyi, a protest took place near the St. Mykolai Cathedral ahead of the arrival of the head of the UOC-MP, Metropolitan Onufriy. According to the correspondent of 'Hlavcom', more than 100 people, including veterans, active servicemen, and relatives of fallen soldiers, gathered in front of the church to express their protest.

City council member Vitaliy Pidhaychuk reported on the blocking of access to the church with garbage trucks and septic tank trucks. Viktor Burlyk, a regional council member, urged residents to join the protest near St. Mykolai Cathedral before the arrival of Metropolitan Onufriy.

On May 21, Metropolitan Onufriy will lead the all-night vigil at St. Mykolai Cathedral to mark the 35th anniversary of the revival of the Khmelnytskyi Diocese. It is planned that he will also participate in the service on May 22.

These protests have become relevant in connection with the signing of a law by President Zelensky prohibiting the activities of religious organizations with a leadership center in the state that is aggressively waging war against Ukraine. In turn, the Russian Orthodox Church included not only Patriarch Kirill but also Metropolitan Onufriy and Ukrainian archbishops in its calendar for 2025.
