The establishment of an international commission to review claims for Ukraine was discussed in The Hague.

Negotiations on the establishment of a commission to review claims for Ukraine began in The Hague
From March 24 to 26, the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on the creation of an international treaty on the commission took place in The Hague.
According to the Ministry of Justice, this was the official beginning of negotiations to establish the commission after four preparatory meetings that took place since July 2024.
'During the meeting, an updated draft international treaty was reviewed, which provides for the establishment of a commission to review claims. The participants in the negotiations conducted a detailed discussion of the main aspects of interaction, mandate, modalities, and organizational structure of the future commission, as well as other issues related to its functioning,' the ministry reported.
More than 50 countries from all continents, as well as the European Union and the Council of Europe, participated in the first stage of negotiations.
The commission to review claims for Ukraine will become the second integral element of the international compensation mechanism. It will be responsible for reviewing claims submitted to the international register of damages caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as establishing compensation amounts for the affected parties.
The next meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on the creation of an international treaty on the commission to review claims for Ukraine is scheduled for May 2025. Ukraine hopes to complete work on the international treaty on the establishment of the commission by the end of this year.
