Speculative Plus Gas Shortage: Expert Warns of Summer Power Outages.

Ukrainians may face power outages in summer 2025
Head of the Utility Consumers Association Oleg Popenko warned that Ukraine may face electricity supply issues in summer 2025 due to prolonged heat and gas shortage.
“It will be difficult for us to cover peak loads in the summer if the temperature stays at +30 and above for at least 2-3 weeks. We must address the fact that there is a huge problem with gas. Currently, we can cover peak loads solely due to gas,” emphasized Popenko.
According to the expert, the main issue lies in the inability of hydropower plants to compensate for the high electricity demand in summer.
Potential Restrictions for Business
In case of energy shortage, the first plan is to limit electricity supply to enterprises rather than to the population. Such restrictions may become necessary to ensure energy supply in the country.
Popenko also noted that certain conditions must be met for power outages to occur, including: disruptions in the energy system, high air temperatures, and the need to conserve gas.
Analysis
The statement by the head of the Utility Consumers Association indicates serious problems that Ukraine may face in electricity supply. Measures should be taken to ensure the stability of the country's energy system to avoid mass power outages in the future.
