How many Ukrainian prisoners of war were executed by the Russians? Data from the Ombudsman.

Ukrainian prisoners of war have suffered many losses during the prolonged war. According to Dmytro Lubinets, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, there have been at least 177 executions of Ukrainian soldiers during the three years of war. The most cases were recorded in 2024, with 109 executions.
Lubinets primarily receives data on these cases from Ukrainian special services through recorded videos. However, information sometimes comes directly from the military. There are instances where even the Russians post videos of these events on social media.
The International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN also note cases of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war. However, Lubinets claims that the Red Cross has never accused the Russians of murdering or torturing Ukrainian soldiers, neither publicly nor confidentially.
Nevertheless, official UN reports for 2024 contain information about the murders of Ukrainian defenders carried out by the Russians.
