The head of the Crimean organization 'Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists' Vasyl Ovcharuk has died.


The Ukrainian public organization Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists was shaken by the loss of its head. He died of illness. This was reported by the Radio Liberty project Crimea.Realities.
The farewell ceremony will take place on September 13 at 14:00 in the city of Slavuta, Khmelnytskyi region, at the address: Zdorovia Street, 3.
The head of the organization, Vasyl Ovcharuk, was born in the village of Sokhuzhyntsi, Khmelnytskyi region. He moved to Crimea in 1978 and began working at Simferopol Secondary School No. 38. In addition, he participated in the liquidation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. In 1991, Ovcharuk became a member of the All-Ukrainian Society Prosvita.
In the 90s, he joined the Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists and in 2002 he headed the Crimean branch of the organization. After the Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014, Ovcharuk opposed it, participated in protest actions, and supported Ukrainian military units. To avoid arrest, he moved to Kyiv, and then to Slavuta in the Khmelnytskyi region. In recent years, Ovcharuk was engaged in volunteer activities, worked in schools, and maintained connections with Crimeans.
