European Commission: seizure of ZNPP by Russian troops creates a dangerous situation
European Commission representative for energy, Tim McPhie, stated that the European Commission considers the seizure of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) by Russian troops a dangerous situation.
Additionally, EU officials do not have sufficient information on the situation at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, located in the Kursk region of Russia. Part of this plant is under the control of the Ukrainian army.
“The first question was about the nuclear power plant in Russia. This is something we cannot share any specific information about. There is the International Atomic Energy Agency, which has been paying close attention to this. Regarding Zaporizhia and the recent incident, again, the IAEA is on-site and has conducted an inspection there. And we rely on them to carry out the necessary monitoring and maintain very close contact with them. Again, I can reiterate what we have repeatedly said about Zaporizhia. This is part of Russia's illegal aggression. They have occupied the nuclear power plant. Obviously, this is a serious risk. We are closely monitoring this through the IAEA. And, of course, our general call is that Russia must leave,” he said.
