Taal Volcano Erupts in the Philippines (video).


The Philippine volcano Taal, located near the capital region, erupted, spewing a column of steam over 2 km high, the seismological agency reported.
Taal is one of the smallest active volcanoes in the world. Several of its previous eruptions have affected the capital and air traffic. The volcano is located in a large lake near the city of Tagaytay in Cavite province.
The head of the seismological agency, Teresito Bacolcol, described the Taal eruption as phreatomagmatic - when magma interacts with water and creates a plume of steam.
Bacolcol noted that the danger level remained low after the eruption, and there were no reports of casualties. Evacuation was not announced.

Despite the volcanic height being only 311 meters, it can be dangerous. In 1911, an eruption of Taal claimed the lives of over 1300 people.
