Catastrophic situation: expert Popenko commented on the condition of the bridges in Kyiv.

In Kyiv, debates have flared up again about the critical condition of the city's two key bridges – Metro and Paton.
Experts are sounding the alarm, warning about the possibility of their collapse at any moment. These crossings, which are the oldest in the capital of Ukraine, have long caused serious concerns among specialists and citizens.
TSN writes about this, citing the comment of expert Oleh Popenko.
The Paton Bridge was closed for traffic on both of its outer lanes because it might simply fall apart. This narrowing is a temporary salvation, but in this mode, the bridge has been functioning for four years, and no one is doing anything about it, - Popenko noted.
The Metro Bridge is also in an emergency condition. Of particular concern is the fact that metro trains, carrying thousands of passengers, run on it daily.
The problem is not limited to these two bridges only. According to experts, in 2019-2020, the Kyiv authorities stated that 95% of bridges and overpasses in Kyiv need immediate major repairs.
The situation is no longer just critical, but catastrophic. It requires immediate intervention, not only from the city but also from the state, - he added.
Of particular concern is the lack of accurate information about the technical condition of bridge structures not only in Kyiv but throughout Ukraine. Popenko insists that a technical inspection and audit of the entire critical infrastructure of the capital need to be urgently conducted.
The situation is complicated by the fact that even after imposing restrictions on the Paton Bridge, it barely withstands the load from the traffic flow. This endangers not only the safety of drivers and pedestrians but could also lead to a transport collapse if the bridge is closed.
