Europe and Canada need to increase defense spending to 5% - Admiral Bauer.

Increase in defense spending: why it matters
The increase in defense spending by Europe and Canada to 5% of GDP, as proposed by US President Donald Trump, is strategically important not only for their own security but also for NATO as a whole, and could positively impact support for Ukraine. This was stated by former Chairman of NATO's Military Committee Admiral Rob Bauer during a speech at the Kyiv Security Forum.
'I know some people raise their eyebrows when I say this, but it's true. The US is rightly asking Europeans and Canada to do more for NATO. They need to look in the mirror and ask themselves if they have done everything they promised to do for NATO, and only after that can they criticize the Trump administration's position.'
The Admiral emphasized that the increase in defense spending by NATO member countries was initiated 'years ago' and is strategically significant as it makes the alliance more flexible and capable of providing support to partner countries, including Ukraine, in strengthening their sovereignty and security.
Analysis
The increase in defense spending by NATO member countries not only holds important strategic significance for the region's security but can also assist in supporting partner countries, especially Ukraine. This indicates a gradual increase in awareness among alliance member countries regarding the importance of collective defense and solidarity in the face of modern world challenges.
