Why should released captives not see their relatives immediately? Explanation from a psychologist.

Relatives who have been in captivity dream of meeting their loved ones as soon as possible, but experts advise against immediate meetings. Psychologist Olena Sek from the Armed Forces explained that it is important to plan reunions for those released carefully, as they can evoke strong emotions that require a cautious approach.
“Amid the euphoria, certain expectations arise that may turn out to be illusions, and emotions sometimes become so overwhelming that they complicate the process of post-isolation recovery. Unfortunately, we have cases where poorly organized meetings have significantly traumatized both parties,” noted the psychologist.
According to Olena Sek, it is better to postpone a personal meeting after captivity, have a brief contact remotely, and avoid emotional and informational overloads in the early stages of the meeting. It is important to adhere to external assistance and adaptation in this process.
Conclusion
Experts advise relatives of those released from captivity to refrain from immediate meetings and carefully plan the adaptation process, as meeting with the liberated can provoke strong emotions that require a proper and cautious approach.
