Potato, garlic, and cabbage prices are unstable: what is happening in February.

At the beginning of 2025, the Ukrainian vegetable market is experiencing different price dynamics. Prices for potatoes and garlic are decreasing, but the situation with cabbage remains ambiguous.
As of February 24, 2025, the average price of potatoes in supermarkets ranges from 28.90 to 40.50 UAH/kg, depending on the variety and sales location. In markets, they can be purchased for prices ranging from 22 to 27 UAH/kg. In wholesale purchases, the price can be as low as 9.5 UAH/kg. The price of potatoes has decreased by 4.9% compared to January.
Garlic prices are also decreasing. By mid-February, its average cost was 160.15 UAH/kg, which is lower than 169.24 UAH/kg in January. In supermarkets, garlic prices range from 154.90 to 168.80 UAH/kg, but at Megamarket it is offered for 64.8 UAH/kg.
The situation with cabbage is controversial. In supermarkets, the price of white cabbage ranges from 44.80 to 64.80 UAH/kg. In markets, especially in frontline areas, prices have dropped to 32-38 UAH/kg due to the liquidation of stocks. However, prices for young cabbage are significantly higher - from 88.70 to 116.20 UAH/kg, which is 30% more than in January.
The decrease in potato prices is explained by the availability of stocks from last year's harvest and an increase in imports from the Baltic states and Poland. The decrease in garlic prices is linked to innovations in the agricultural sector and competition from imports from China and Spain.
Climate conditions, logistical issues, and economic factors also affect vegetable prices. Military actions complicate the transportation of products in frontline areas, leading to price differences between different regions of the country.
According to analysts' forecasts, a price increase of 3-5% for vegetables is expected in 2025, including cabbage to 52.5 UAH/kg and carrots to 36 UAH/kg.
