Interesting traffic rules test - who should yield on green
The driver of the black car.

A task about passing intersections and regulating traffic. Who among the drivers will go first on the green traffic light in the situation depicted in the picture?

The task was proposed by Autokult.

Answer options

  1. The driver of the red car.
  2. The driver of the black car.
  3. They will pass according to the agreement.

Task analysis

At the intersection on the green traffic light, the driver of the black car goes straight, while the driver of the red car turns left.

At the intersection, there are priority signs 2.1 'Give way' before the driver of the black car, 2.3. 'Main road' before the driver of the red car, and 7.8 'Direction of the main road'. But these signs do not matter while the traffic light is working.

Let's read item 8.3 of the Traffic Rules:

'Traffic lights, except for the flashing yellow, have precedence over priority road signs.'

The trajectories of the cars intersect, so one of the drivers has to yield. And the driver of the black car will go first.

Let's read item 16.6 of the Traffic Rules:

'When turning left or making a U-turn at the green light of the main traffic light, the driver of a non-rail vehicle must yield to the tram going in the same direction, as well as to vehicles moving in the opposite direction straight or turning right.'

Thus, the driver of the red car, who turns left at the green traffic light, must yield.
