85% of Greenland's residents oppose joining the USA: survey.

The majority of Greenland's residents oppose separating from Denmark and joining the USA. This was reported by Reuters, citing the Danish newspaper Berlingske.

According to the results of a sociological study by Verian, commissioned by the Danish newspaper, only 6% of Greenland's residents support the idea of joining the USA, while another 9% are undecided.

The Prime Minister of Greenland, Mute Egede, has repeatedly stated that the island is not for sale and that the residents have the right to decide their future.

The island's population is 57,000. In 2009, Greenland gained extensive rights within the Kingdom of Denmark, including the possibility to conduct a referendum on independence from Copenhagen.

It should be noted that the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance have declined to comment on the acquisition of Greenland after Denmark asked its allies to refrain from reacting to threats from American President Donald Trump.

As reported, Denmark will allocate about $2.1 billion to strengthen its military presence in the Arctic, as U.S. President Donald Trump has shown interest in controlling Greenland. The program includes funding for the construction of three Arctic military ships, two drones, and satellites to improve surveillance.

Earlier, Donald Trump emphasized his intention to include Canada and Greenland into the United States. He also expressed a desire to regain control over the Panama Canal and rename the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf.
